Put Bargnani on the block….trading block that is.

This is my last plea to BC. I’ve had it. Points are highly overated commodity in basketball (fantasy basketball too), but size and range has value.

Bargnani’s value will never be as high as it is today. Never. At some point, there will be another good player in Toronto and Bargs will fall into the background. Even Triano admitted recently that Bargs and Derozen would never be playing this many minutes if the team wasn’t so anemic scoring wise.

He’s soft. Guys like Asik dunk on him at will.
He doesn’t rebound more than a 2 guard. We have to play Evans beside him for balance.
Poor decision maker. 35% shooting last 10games.
Intanglables. Non existant.

Yes bashing Bargnani is very popular and has been done to death, but atleast he has value this time round.

I really don’t understand, maybe it’s not Bargs. He needs to be put in positions, where he is able to score. Maybe the coach should start telling him to not shoot anymore 3s like Avery Johnson did with Dirk. Look what it did to his game.

It is him. Hes not a good 3 point shooter, but isnt that what people love about him? He can spread the floor the 3 point line. Take that away from his game and hes just your run of the mill PF who can pop and drive but cant rebound and has no heart/desire.

  2. sean brownie says:

So a PF who can pop/dive/spread the floor is a “run off the mill”. I know that he got drafted on the strength of his other characteristics (3 point shooting) but it doesn’t mean that he should be pigeonholed into that mold only. I saw them tonight, trying to post him up a bit more – he got some good results. I guess I need to show you some statistical stuff to prove all this

Funny you mentioned bargnani post up. Its probably one if my favorite things to watch in the league. He keeps trying to do, but the defenders never even move an inch and he always end up shooting a step back fade.

I’d wager his value was much higher last season and the start of this one. He should have been moved this past offseason, if not years ago. Ask yourself this question…. would you, if a GM, trade for him and his 4 years at approx 10 mil a year? Its gonna be a tough sell.

Sean Brownie: Bargs may not be ‘run of the mill’ by any stretch, but he is definetely not good and he is not a benifit to this team. I also wouldn’t blame the coach for not using him properly as he chooses not to drive, not post up, not run the floor, not roll but rather pop after nearly every pick. But Triano should be blamed for not sitting his sorry excuse for an ass when he doesn’t do those things. The guy has had over 4 years to ‘prove’ himself and all he has proven over that time is that he is a streaky, inefficient SG (with inadequate ball handling or passing ability for that position) in a Cs body. He is a mismatch for some Cs in the league, and is himself mismatched on D against every player in the league.. which takes away the one small benifit he offers a team. He has become predictable on offense which again takes away his ability to ‘drive, shoot or post up’. He is ackward and turnover prone when moving with the ball. He has no awareness when he doesn’t have the ball. The rare times he does drive he has his head down and has no idea where his teammates or the defense are. He is so extremely one dimensional its unreal… all he does is shoot… and that leads to inefficiency.

He needs to go… failing that he needs to be benched… failing that he needs to see less minutes. If he sulks… Eddie Curry/Starbury his ass and get him away from the rest of the team.

The guy has been given all opportunity to prove himself. He has been given opportunities other players only dream of getting… ultimately he has proven to be a failure.

    SS,

Unfortunately, those few who saw accurately years ago what exactly Mr. Bargnani was most likely going to develop into as he becaome a more seasoned player in the NBA were not listened to by either: A. The team’s general fanbase, or B. The Raptors’ management team. All too frequently, those who do not simply tow the party line concerning the kool-aid distributed by MLSE, re: the optomistic state of the Raptors franchise, are classified as “haters”; when, in fact, they are the ones with a sound understanding of what is really going on with the Raptors, relative to the other 29 franchises in the NBA. It is never difficult to trade a player in this league … as long as the team that currently holds that player’s contract does not misperceive his actual value, in the eyes of the other GMs. The Raptors are having a poor season … but they can easily turn their ship around, IF BRYAN COLANGELO HAS THE ABILITY TO THOROUGHLY UNDERSTAND THE PERSONNEL MISTAKES HE HAS MADE TO GET HIMSELF IN THIS CURRENT SITUATION. Unfortunately, if he does not have this ability, then, there will be very little change in the fortunes of the Dinos in the immediate future.

Thank you SS, this is what I’ve been trying to tell my thick headed friend Mr.Browie.

I do think his value is higher today than last year though. For 1, there is a year off his contract, and secondly hes “proven” (used loosely) he can be a good scoring option. I still do believe that there are GM’s in this league that still believe this guy is one year away from being Nowitzki. I wanna deal with those guys. If thats the case, 10mil a year isn’t so bad for a 25year up and coming star who’s stats are up across the board( we need to tickle their buying bone….).

And I do exuse Triano a bit for playing Bargs ,Derozen and Jose for the offense knowing full well their defense is not up to par, but where is the accountability? This team stinks, atleast build a defensive mindset for these young guys going forward.

“He is a mismatch for some Cs in the league, and is himself mismatched on D against every player in the league.. which takes away the one small benifit he offers a team. ”
Exactly. Its tick for tact with him.
